Research Problem
Healthcare organizations have identified falls are the primary cause of injury in older
adults. Falls also cause death in older adults. Many healthcare organizations have come up with
various ways to prevent injuries and fatalities caused by falls. One of the best approaches used in
healthcare is a home camera-based fall detection system that reduces cases of falls in elderly
individuals. Thus, the primary purpose is to explore the use of a home camera-based fall
detection system via the Supervised Machine Learning Model for older people.
Background of the Problem
Camera-based fall detection system has been implemented in many healthcare facilities
to minimize injuries and deaths. Most of the older adults in society require close caregiving
services because they are predisposed to many health conditions. Most of the fall detectors are
utilized through wearable devices to assist older adults in seeking healthcare services in
hospitals. However, the majority of elderly individuals forget to wear fall detectors, limiting their
full utilization in healthcare settings (Ma et al., 2014). Moreover, fall detectors work well on
artificial vision. Unfortunately, very few fall detectors with artificial vision are available in the
market.
Significance of the Project
Despite the challenges older adults face when using fall detectors, modern technology has
resulted in the innovation of a home camera-based fall detection system that utilizes supervised
machine learning models. The new detection model is useful in healthcare due to its low-cost and

ability to use artificial vision algorithms. Thus, the fall detector can be used to protect older
adults from injuries from falls using several algorithms.
The Scope of the Project
The research will explore how the integration of machine learning algorithms can be used
to create a home camera-based fall detection that can benefit elderly individuals. The project
aims to accommodate technologies used in developing fall detectors to assist elderly patients
who fail to wear sensor devices. The increase in the number of older adults with dementia has
made other fall detectors ineffectively because they forget to wear them. In that regard, the
project aims to consider how the utilization of machine learning algorithms in elderly patients
can improve safety, comfort, and independence (Ma et al., 2014). Moreover, it will prevent stress
and depression among elderly individuals. The project will also focus on how the new fall
detector will free caregivers from the routine duties of assisting elderly individuals from falling.
Thus, the technology used in developing fall detectors will be fundamental in enhancing safety
of older indivuduals.
