Art History Survey –Assignment 1,5 -2 pages (50 points) This assignment is designed to engage you with the issue of effectiveness of art. You are to select two works we have covered in class for your analysis and discussion. One work should serve as an example of effective/successful art, and another as ineffective/unsuccessful. Before presenting a detailed analysis of these works, you should come up with your own criteria (at least 3) for what makes an effective/successful art. For example, to be effective should it be aesthetically pleasing (what exactly makes art aesthetically pleasing: scale, location, colors, particular style? I would like you to come up with your own 3 criteria. Each criterion should be explained. For example, you can state that in order to be effective, art should reflect the values of its intended audience. But you have to explain why it is important. Consider your criteria as an argument you are advancing/defending in your essay. This essay should be based on your close visual observations rather than outside research. Introduction

There exist different artwork around the globe, and most of them have an impact on human
life in different ways. People have generated Replica of the original works to create the satisfaction
they get from seeing the picture. However, not all works of art are compelling; some are
ineffective. Hence there are three concepts that I will use to analyze the success of two sculptures,
which are a treasury of the Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius and Great Sphinx of Giza. The
three criteria include; complete original art, well-defined History, and replicas of the work of art.
These three areas are my concept of successful art.

A useful art should have the original out...
