Critical Thinking Experience
I have been a caregiver working in assisted living facilities for 12 years working with the
elderly and patients with Alzheimer’s. I have also completed my Associates Degree in Human
Services with the goal of becoming an administrator of an assisted living facility for elderly.
Recently, I had a job offer for a management position working with developmentally physically
challenged clients. The management position did not pay much more than what I was making.
My current employer at the time asked if I would stay with a pay increase if she gave me a
position of a team lead. This gave me two options that both, in the end, had pros and cons.
However I did need to decide and make a choice.
This was not a situation to where I was unable to keep a positive attitude. This wasn’t a
negative situation at all, just a tough decision I needed to make. It did give me a positive attitude
knowing that I was asked to stay at a job that I had put my 2-week notice in and was going to be
leaving. This told me that I was a valuable part of the team and a valuable member of the
company.
I immediately began to weight the pros and the cons of each job and each choice I had.
The current caregiving job was paying me $10.50 an hour, working 40 hours a week with having
the options and opportunities...
