Assignment Overview
In this writing assignment, you will review the process used to select a topic and determine the specific purpose and main points for a speech.
Deliverables
You will identify the following and create the outline for your Informative Speech.
- Topic
- General Purpose Statement
- Specific Purpose Statement
- Central Idea Statement
- Three to five main points and details
Submit a one-page APA formatted outline answering the listed questions about your informative speech and your informative speech outline. Your specific purpose statement should give a description of who your audience is as well as what you hope to accomplish.

NOTE: This assignment is part of the requirements for your Speech # 3, the Informative Speech. You will be using this outline for your Informative Speech topic.

Limit the scope of your topic to fit a five-seven minute speech.
Step 2
Review the information in the course about creating a general-purpose statement, a specific-purpose statement, and a central idea statement.
Using the APA Outline Template, list your statements for your topic and create an outline using three-five main points and details.
Step 3
Understand the importance of reputable references. A successful presentation depends on having reputable support material for your points. It is necessary to let your audience know exactly where you got your information. You need to refer to your sources while speaking so your audience will know where it came from.
You may use the internet for these 2 sources. You may choose to use the school's online databases. (Note: Speech 4 will require it). https://digitalprairieok.net/discover/. Directions on how to do this can be found in student resources for this course.
Cite your sources in an APA formatted reference page. It is the last page of the outline template.
