An educational institution is setting up a new campus which will house classrooms, offices, a library, a student lounge, registrar’s office, and an academic support center for students. In Module 2, you will complete Phase 1 of the assignment: • Statement of the Problem or Need: Based on your review of the IT system, write a description of the purpose/need/rationale for the IT project at the campus. What problem(s) are you planning to solve at the campus? • Project Deliverables: Write a description of the necessary hardware components and software to set up computer systems for the educational institution. Phase 1 of the Portfolio Project is due in Module 2. Last week youstarted making a list of computer hardware (desktop and laptop computers), peripherals, and network (wired and wireless) components with specifications required to set up the proposed business office. Include the following as part of the project deliverables for submission in Module 2: • Type of power supply • Type of motherboard • Type of CPU and memory • Types of storage and capacities • Types of network interface cards (wired and wireless) • Type and specifications for laser printers • Types of expansion cards (if needed) for expanding ports • Types of monitors (CRT, LCD) and specifications • Specifications for laptop computers • Any other required hardware component(s)of the items. Select the most appropriate computer client operating system (COS) with reasons for its selection. Include the following (at minimum) as part of the project deliverables: • Type of Windows operating system • 32-bit or 64-bit version • Video and printer support • Network and sharing features • Windows help and support • Any other relevant features of the selected COS. Your Module 2 Portfolio Project Milestone should meet the following requirements: • Three to four pages in length, not including cover and reference pages. Option #2: IT Infrastructure for an Educational Institution For Option #2, you have been hired as an IT manager for a new campus to set up the IT infrastructure over a six-month period in four phases. An educational institution is setting up a new campus which will house classrooms, offices, a library, a student lounge, registrar’s office, and an academic support center for students. Phase 2 will include the following: • Project Beneficiaries: Write a description of who will derive direct benefit from the project and how they will benefit. • Project Deliverables: Write a description of the computer network hardware necessary to set up the computer networks and the necessary software and protocols. Update your project deliverables section by adding the following features: • Type of NIC (wired or wireless) • Routers or Wireless Access Points or both • Cables and connectors to implement a physical network • Any other needed network hardware • Physical and logical network topologies • IP versions (IPv4 or IPv6) and why • IP address pool for the network • DNS and DHCP • Any other network software component. Your paper should meet the following requirements: • Three to four pages in length, not including cover and reference pages. Option #2: Phase 3 of IT Infrastructure for an Educational Institution For Option #2 you have been hired as an IT manager for a new campus to set up the IT infrastructure over a six- month period in four phases. An educational institution is setting up a new campus which will house classrooms, offices, a library, a student lounge, registrar’s office, and an academic support center for students. In Module 6, you are submitting Phase 3 of the assignment. • Assumptions and Constraints: Write a description of any assumptions and constraints regarding the project. An educational institution is setting up a new campus which will house classrooms, offices, a library, a student lounge, registrar’s office, and an academic support center for students. You will incorporate Phases 1-3 in your Portfolio Project as a technological proposal. Phases 1-3 serve as the basis of the project deliverable section in the technological proposal, which you will submit as a full project in Module 8. Phase 1:   Statement of the Problem or Need: Write a description of the purpose/need/rationale for the IT project at the campus. What problem(s) are you planning to solve at the campus? Project Deliverables: Write a description of the necessary hardware components and software to set up computer systems for the educational institution. Information Technology Project
The institution wishes to install information technology system into its campus. The new
campus will have the following sections; classrooms, offices, library, students lounge, registrar’s
office and an academic support center for students. This proposal is a preliminary outline of the
expected project phases and objectives. Activities in each phase are clearly defined alongside the
goals.

Phase 1:

Statement of the problem
As a new campus within the management of the educational institution, there is an
urgent need to put all system under one integration. The form that this integration requires
depends on the kind of technology available for use in this integration. Information
communication technology is a pivotal part of any organization's activities. Its importance goes
beyond the transmission of information from one party to another. Information technology
combines electronic technologies and methods used to control information and knowledge
including tools used to produce process, disseminate, store, and transmit information. Any
learning environment requires a high level of operational systems that can ensure that learners
can access services and information at any given moment. To facilitate this kind of access, the
sectors in the campus requires an integrated technology that can automate services and eliminate
unwarranted delays in getting access to services on the campus. Apart from automating services
at the campus, installation of information technology in the new school will aid in learner

support system. This system will enable both learners and professors to communicate via digital
platforms when there is a need for private consultations. The system programmer expects to
learn resources to be availed at a central server where learners can log in and acquire the
materials. This course particular platform is different from the campus library. Its primary role is
to facilitate off-campus interaction between the instructor and the student. The school library is a
sub-sector that requires information technology to establish a digital library that is accessible to
all students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution. An integrated information system
is a key to developing the digital library on the campus. Other areas such as the academic support
center for student and the students lounge needs a coordinated system that can monitor all
activities in addition to facilitating students’ access to services at these centers.
The complexities in the institution require a watertight security system that can
monitor both online and offline activities in the institution. This is a major issue that information
technology is designed to handle. The whole issue of technology has evolved rapidly, and more
people are up to date with classified and unclassified information on operations of various
systems. To secure the operations of the institution free from internet hacker and people of
uncultured behaviours who may intend to breach security and operations at the campus, it is vital
to install a digital security control system in the campus. The system will be able to monitor
activities from digital cameras and online surveillance in both off-line and online activities
within the school premises respectively.
The institutions management expects the enrollment at the institution to be in large
numbers. Therefore, it is widely anticipated that there will be long ques of students at various
service centers and offices. The technology system installation will transfer this process to an
online platform where students do not have to line up to get services in some of the departments

of the campus. Efficiency in service delivery is attainable through this system as some process
are automated and eliminates too much red tape especially in accessing services at the registrar’s
offices.
The institution’s primary motive is supporting students’ learning; it is, therefore,
critical to putting the learning agenda way above any other issue. Online classroom system is a
significant step in ensuring that learners benefit from campus education. The problem of getting
services and consultations from instructors is reduced through this platform. Students can engage
the lecturer before or after the class without getting into physical contact. Virtual class is just a
step in bridging the gap between the student and the supervisor, and not a fully fledged class. It,
therefore, does not eliminate physical classrooms in the institution.
