Green & Salkind: Lesson 31, Exercises 1-4 Module 5The following helpful tips are numbered to correspond with the exercise number to which they refer (a dash indicates that no tips are needed):1.--------2.Answer this question in sentence form. Include the correlation (r), the p value, and whether these values indicate a significant correlation between the variables or not.3.All homework “Results sections” should follow the example given in the Course Content document “Writing Results of Statistical Tests in APA Format” (note: you do not have to refer to a figure).4.--------Part Two:1.A clinical psychologist would like to determine whether there is a relationship between observer ratings of children’s anxious behaviors and scores on an established diagnostic interview assessing anxiety disorders. He administers the diagnostic interview to 28 children and records these scores. He then trains an observer to independently rate anxiety-specific behaviors for each of the 28 children. These ratings are totaled for an overall “anxious behavior” score. On both the interview and the behavioral ratings, a higher score indicates higher levels of anxiety. These scores are listed in the table below. Conduct a Pearson correlation coefficient analysis to determine whether there is a relationship between the interview scores and behavioral ratings for this group of children. The steps will be the same as the ones you have been practicing in Part One of the assignment—the only difference is that you are now responsible for creating the data file as well. Remember to name and define your variables under the “Variable View,” then return to the “Data View” to enter the data.Interview (Range 0 to 9)Anxious Behavior Rating (Range 0 to 25)372646921720718410893537251361781982372214273733513820716412613618515292.Create a simple scatterplot of the relationship between these variables (define interview scores as the x-axis and behavioral ratings as the y-axis).3.Write an APA-style results section describing the outcome. All homework “Results sections” should follow the example given in the Course Content document “Writing Results of Statistical Tests in APA Format” (note: you do not have to refer to a figure). Be sure to include the direction of the relationship between the variables (positive? negative? none?) in your section.4.A neuropsychologist is assessing the relationship between brain function and performance on a visuo-spatial task. He administers a test to 14 patients on which scores can range from 1 to 20: a high score indicates normal brain function, and a low score indicates some levels of brain dysfunction. He then asks each patient to complete a maze and records the number of mistakes the patient makes from start to finish. The scores are listed in the table below.Conduct a Pearson correlation coefficient analysis to determine what the relationship is, if any, between brain function and performance on the maze task. The steps will be the same as the ones you have been practicing in Part One of the assignment—the only difference is that you are now responsible for creating the data file as well. Remember to name and define your variables under the “Variable View,” then return to the “Data View” to enter the data.Dysfunction ScoreNumber of Mistakes on Maze Task3258189184261566191831741966165142021755235.Create a simple scatterplot of the relationship between these variables.6.Write an APA-style results section describing the outcome. All homework “Results sections” should follow the example given in the Course Content document “Writing Results of Statistical Tests in APA Format” (note: you do not have to refer to a figure).7.The null hypothesis for this scenario can be written as follows: “There is no relationship between level of brain function and the number of mistakes made on a maze task.” Based on your results, should this hypothesis be rejected or retained, and why? Write your answer in sentence form.Part Three: Cumulative Homework1.A developmental psychologist is studying whether students in a certain preschool program perform better than preschoolers in the state in general on a measure of math readiness. The mean score for preschoolers in the state on the measure is 87. The psychologist tests the preschoolers in the program and records the scores in the table below. Choose the correct test to analyze this question, set up the SPSS file, and run the analysis. Follow the directions under the table below.Math Readiness Scores908986917892887379898891938992a)Paste appropriate SPSS output.b)Paste appropriate SPSS graph.c)Write an APA-style results section describing the outcome. All homework “Results sections” should follow the example given in the Course Content document “Writing Results of Statistical Tests in APA Format” (note: you do not have to refer to a figure).Green & Salkind: Lesson 33, Exercises 1, 3, and 4 Modul3 6The following helpful tips are numbered to correspond with the exercise number to which they refer (a dash indicates that no tips are needed):1.Though the example in the lesson includes creating a z score variable, this step is not necessary for the homework exercises. For a and b, note that the Green and Salkind text uses different terminology from the Aron et al. text. The slope is the same thing as theregression coefficient from Aron et al., and the additive constant is the same as theregression constant.3.Write the answer to the last part of this question beneath your graph, in sentence form.4.All homework “Results sections” should follow the example given in the Course Content document “Writing Results of Statistical Tests in APA Format” (note: you do not have to refer to a figure). Note: The statistical statement for a bivariate linear regression should include at least the equation of the line and the confidence interval for the slope (the second row under Confidence Intervals in the output).Part Two:1.A community psychologist is interested in whether spending time in after-school programs is predictive of the number of arrests as a young adult in a high-risk neighborhood. After collecting records on 17 individuals over 8 years, the psychologist compiles the information listed in the table below. Conduct a linear regression to analyze the research question. The steps will be the same as the ones you have been practicing in Part One of the assignment—the only difference is that you are now responsible for creating the data file as well. Remember to name and define your variables under the “Variable View,” then return to the “Data View” to enter the data.Hours Spent in After-School ProgramsNumber of Arrests After Age 17324116812907512412105411931340106167125373138411003132.Construct a scatterplot of the relationship between the two variables. Plot the regression line on this graph.3.Is time spent in after school programs predictive of the number of arrests as a young adult? Write an APA-style results section describing the outcome. The statistical statement for a bivariate linear regression should include at least the equation of the line and the confidence interval for the slope (the second row under Confidence Intervals in the output). All homework “Results sections” should follow the example given in the Course Content document “Writing Results of Statistical Tests in APA Format” (note: you do not have to refer to a figure).Part Three: Cumulative Homework1.To investigate the relationship between hours spent studying and exam scores, researchers measured the following. Is there a significant relationship between hours spent studying and scores? Choose the correct test to analyze this question, set up the SPSS file, and run the analysis. Follow the directions under the table below. Hours spent studyingExam Scores 1 3 3 4 4 5 5 5 6 6 7 7 8 40 50 51 61 73 71 64 75 68 76 94 85 84a)Paste appropriate SPSS output.b)Paste appropriate SPSS graph.c)Write an APA-style results section describing the outcome. I need statistics help. The class is BUS 308: Statistics for Managers... I need help with the week 5 assignment. I have it in an excel spreadsheet with the data tables. Here are the questions: Create a correlation table for the variables in our equal_pay___student_rev_4_3__1_-2.xlsx. (Use analysis ToolPak or the StatPlus:mac LE software function Correlation.)Interpret the results. What variables seem to be important in seeing if we pay males and females equally for equal work?Below is a regression analysis for salary being predicted/explained by the other variables in our sample (Mid, age, ees, sr, raise, and deg variables.) Note: since salary and compa are different ways of expressing an employee’s salary, we do not want to have both used in the same regression.Perform a regression analysis using compa as the dependent variable and the same independent variables as used in question 2. Show the result, and interpret your findings by answering the same questions.Note: be sure to include the appropriate hypothesis statements.Based on all of your results to date, is gender a factor in the pay practices of this company? Why or why not? Which is the best variable to use in analyzing pay practices - salary or compa? Why?Why did the single factor tests and analysis (such as t and single factor ANOVA tests on salary equality) not provide a complete answer to our salary equality question? What outcomes in your life or work might benefit from a multiple regression examination rather than a simpler one variable test?
