Abstract
The sense of belonging is essential to be successful in school. Accordingly, sense of relatedness is
considered as a resource for motivation in learning the process. A strong sense of belonging has the
positive impact on students’ self-efficacy which eventually affects school performance. This study aims
to investigate the influence of sense of belonging on students’ academic performance in the sixth grade.
The present study focuses on the impact of feelings of relatedness or connectedness to particular social

result revealed that there is a significant correlation between students’ school performance and sense of
belonging. Self-Report showed that the feelings of relatedness to parents and teacher positively affect
students’ academic achievement, whereas there is no significant relationship between students’
connectedness to peers and students’ school performance.
Introduction
Social bonds and connections with other people have a long history of psychological researchers
(Vaz, Falkmer, Ciccarelli, Passmore, Parsons, Black, & Falkmer, 2015). Psychological researchers and
analysts have occasionally referred to it as the need for attachment between individuals, the necessity of
relatedness, and the need for positive regard from others (Vaz et al., 2015). Mostly, offering students with
a sense of belonging is increasingly becoming essential for students to be successful in the school. A

academic achievement were revealed (Furrer & Skinner, 2003; Goodenow, 1993; Osterman, 2000; AkarVural, Özelci, Çengel & Gomleksiz, 2013). Students who experience substantial relatedness feelings are
less likely to be isolated from school activities, and more liable to function well in the classroom activities
than students who live the law relatedness to school (Goodenow, 1993). The absence of a sense of

belonging in school is with good associations with a faculty of law performance (student). Investigating
and exploring the feelings of belonging that students have, and the connection or relationship between
students’ sense of belonging to overall academic performance in schools is critical to assist and improve
students’ performance in the school. Therefore, this research seeks to answer the following question: How
does the sense of belonging influence students’ academic performance in sixth grade?
