because she speaks them?
Performance affect meaning since the real situation is not felt but brought out as a joke in
comedy. Stories bring focus towards what she wants to say.
2. Why does Gadsby claim that she has to “stop” doing comedy? Does she actually succeed in
escaping?
Gadsby claims that as a comedian she can't bring lesbians to laughing and her content is a result of
tension caused by anger. She doesn't have a backup plan and that's why she remains in comedy.
3. According to Gadsby, what’s the difference between a joke and a story? Why does she prefer stories
to jokes?
According to Gadsby, a joke is a combination of a start and punchline (ending) while a story is a
combination of a start, middle and an ending. She prefers a story since it doesn't build tension.
