Goal: In your first reflection, my hope is that you can step back and recognize two things: (1) that being persuasive involves many rhetorical moves and (2) that you already have many assumptions about persuading that you probably have never really reflected on.This assignment consists of three smaller parts; an initial informal response, a discussion of an example, and a more detailed response to how you understand rhetoric. Part 1 Prompt: In roughly 200 words, explain what you believe makes a good argument. This is not something I’m asking you to research or provide any outside information for; answer on a personal basis, even if you haven’t given it much thought. What persuades you? Again, the goal is to have you reflect on what your assumptions are, so please don’t worry about finding the “right” answer—this project is about you outlining what you already believe about arguing.
