The Two-Party Political System in the U.S.A
This is a type of political system in which only two political parties participate in every
level electoral process. It can also be viewed as a system that incorporates a winner-take-all
electoral system to mass votes. The United States is one of the States in the world that applies
this type of political system where the Republican Party and Democratic Party dominate the
electoral system. Several factors have favoured the existence of this type of political system
since its adoption in early 1852 (Krasner, 2018). First, the application of a standard winnertakes-all electoral that only favours two major political parties as the third party may not gather
the threshold of votes required from the Electoral College system. Besides, it has become like a
cultural norm among the voters in the United State not to vote for candidates outside the
Democratic Party and Republican Party.
The Processes Involved in the Selection of a Nominee for the President
Democratic Party
Democratic Party has participated in the presidential election since 1856. The party
nominates its presidential candidate through the Democratic National Convention. The
Democratic National Committee conducts party primaries to nominate the president and the vice
president of the party. The Democratic National Committee convenes the Democratic National
Convention attended by the pledged delegates from all the states, territories such as Puerto Rico,
Virgin Islands, and the super delegates to elect and confirm the presidential candidate. It is
imperative to note that the Democratic National Convention held after every four years marks the
end of the party primaries.
The Republican Party

There is a thin line between the nomination process adopted by the Democrats and the
Republicans in the United State presidential election...
