Introduction
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted in 2010 to strengthen the healthcare system
by addressing its problems. Its implementation created new opportunities for stakeholders,
reduced the cost of healthcare delivery, improved the quality of healthcare, and improved the
population's health (Cimasi, Zigrang, & Sharamitaro, 2013). However, the ACA created new
challenges for the stakeholders in the US healthcare system. The affected stakeholders include
the consumers, health care providers, and health insurance companies.
Key Stakeholders
The first key stakeholder groups impacted by the ACA are the health care service
consumers. The enactment of the ACA aimed at offering all Americans affordable insurance
covers to maximize their welfare while also protecting people from unfair treatment by insurance
companies. The legislation was also in consideration of the profit maximization of insurance
companies, which increased the cost of healthcare. As such, the increased cost of insurance
covers reduced healthcare services accessibility among the US population.
