Introduction
Research has shown that most of the couples engage themselves in co-habitation. This
is the act of living together in a sexual relationship with the exception of marriage (Gemici,
Laufer, 2011). In cohabitation, there lacks legal contract between the spouses and the rights
and obligations are not well spelt out in their relationship. Different cultures define the
concept of marriage differently but the common thing is that it is an institution where
interpersonal relationship is valued, or in general sexual is highly acknowledged. In cohabitation, there lacks the commitment and official declaration that the spouses are together
and thus this exposes cohabitation to very high risks afterwards. On contrary to co-habitation,
marriage is usually recognised by the religious authority, local community, tribal group as
well as the state. It is taken to be a contract between the spouses (Litchter, Thornton, Axinn &
xie, 2009). In this case, the in laws are aware of the relationship between the spouses while in
cohabitation, this might just be a dream to them.
Most of those who wed are found to have cohabited before their marriage. The
relationship between marriage stability and that of cohabitation widely varies between
different groups of cohabitors (Lichter, Qian & mellot 2006). During the period of
cohabitation, spouses are able to learn more about their partner and establish their
relationship. Most of the cohabitors says it clearly that they do not plan for it but instead they
finds themselves in it. At the start, they do not have the plan of testing the suitability of the
marriage but this kind of motivation develops later in the process of cohabitation. There is the
