Explanation & Answer
Running head: CENTRAL ASIA
We have discussed a variety of ways people identify themselves – be this clan, ethnicity,
national identity, religion, or the like. Pick TWO forms of identification and compare and
contrast their effect in Central Asia.
Religion and ethnicity are examples of identity which defined the Central Asians. In
Central Asia, there are two significant categories of Islam which involve Sunni and Shia. The
two types of Islamic religion differ slightly in terms of who they believe. Here, the Sunni Islam
believes that Abu Bakr, the prophet Mohammad’s companion is his true successor. On the other
hand, the Shia Islam holds that prophet Mohammad’s cousin and son-in-law, Ali, is the true
successor and first Caliph. Ethnicity is another identity that defined various groups in Central
Asia. Central Asia is made up of heterogeneous societies; the impact of continued
impoverishment on inter-ethnic is likely not to be favorable since poverty is rarely spread. For
example, Northern Kazakhstan is highly concentrated in higher-paid jobs and urban areas
compared to the Russians. Thus, the division in the Islamic region and ethnicity identifies
different groups of Central Asians.
