Description

n Week 1 through Week 9, you should have been working on each section of the proposal. This week, you will collate all these sections and create the final draft.

Make sure your research proposal adheres to the following structure:

  • Title page
  • Abstract (see APA guide for format)
  • Introduction
  • Literature Review
  • Methodology
  • Discussion and Conclusion
  • References

In addition, each section should include the following information:

Abstract: An abstract is a summary of the paper. Review the abstracts of the articles used in your literature review for examples of detailed abstracts.

Introduction: This section has been already created in Week 8.

Literature Review: This section should be taken from the work in Weeks 2 through 6. The literature review is not a copy of that material. Rather, it is a synthesis of the material you found into a cohesive review of the literature on your chosen topic. Make sure to include all the articles that you used in Weeks 2–6 for your literature review.

Methodology: This section has been already created in Week 7.

Discussion and Conclusion: This section has been already created in Week 9.

References: In this section, you should include all of the articles you collected for the literature review. In addition, take care to cite all the references in the APA format.

Abstract
This paper examines the effect of domestic violence on survivors’ mental health.
Fundamentally, a significant number of people in relationships and marriages are victims of
intimate domestic violence. This means that their abusers are their partners such as boyfriends,
girlfriends, lovers, husbands, and wives. Although domestic violence can be perpetrated by
women and men, many women are victims rather than abusers. Due to the nature of the violence,
many victims fail to report the abuse to the police or other relevant authorities, thus developing
mental health disorders. Survivors and victims of domestic violence exhibit mental health issues
such as depression, anxiety, stress, PTSD, and suicide attempts. Past literature and studies about
the issue of domestic violence and its impact on mental health have been indicated in the paper.
The participants for the project are men and women between the age of 18 and 70 who have been
abused by their intimate partners. The data collection technique used is a questionnaire and
STATA 12.1was used for statistical analysis.

Domestic Violence Survivors and Mental Health
Introduction
Domestic Violence can bring on a wave of impact on the individual emotional and
psychological frame of mind. Often, a victim of domestic violence experience things like panic
attacks, PTSD, alcohol and drug abuse, depression, and anxiety. These problems of mental health
are usually overlooked or avoided by society. Managing with their emotional issues daily usually
becomes difficult and exhausting for the survivors. Individuals living with mental health issues
usually experience homelessness and economic hardships. Kids faced with domestic violence
are in danger of developing setbacks, being aggressive, having difficulties at school, and
developing psychological disorders and having low self-confidence (Corvo & Spitzmueller,
2017).
The topic I want to choose is Domestic violence Survivors and Mental Health. I am
interested in this topic because a significant number of domestic violence survivors are
susceptible to developing mental health issues and related complications. The purpose of the
project, therefore, is to determine whether or not domestic violence victims develop mental
health disorders and illnesses. My hypothesis is domestic violence affects survivors’ mental
health.
Literature Review
Goodman, et al (2016) assert that domestic violence (DV) programs, for the past 40
years, have been established in communities across the nation with the intention of assisting
DV’s survivors to become safe. Essentially, these programs put significant stress on the
connection between the survivor and the advocate as crucial to feeling safer and healing from the

ordeal of the violence. The researchers examined how the relationship between advocates and
survivors assist the survivors to heal for the experiences they were subjected to. After extensive
research, it was determined that a stronger connection between the two considerably minimizes
symptoms of PTSD and depression.
Goodman, et al (2016) agrees with the hypothesis of the study that domestic violence
results in the development of mental health issues. According to them, domestic violence (DV)
comes in many forms, including sexual, physical, financial, or psychological. DV, basically,
negatively affects interpersonal trust and shreds survivors of the agency. Many survivors utilize
several innovative and persistent techniques to avert abuse, usually without success because the
perpetrators are mostly in control. The subsequent feeling of impulsiveness, powerlessness, and
withdrawal can result in the development of several mental health issues like depression,
substance abuse, stress and anxiety, and PTSD. Furthermore, women and racial minority groups
are more likely to face domestic violence and this results in mental health conditions.
According to Ferrari, et al (2016), the documented commonness of sexual and/or physical
intimate partner violence (IPV) for women differs worldwide from 15% to 71%. It is reported
that 1 in 5 women, above the age of 15, have experienced IPV in Europe. IPV is linked to mental
health conditions like PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. The researchers also
established a bidirectional effect, where women facing violence and abuse are at risk of
developing mental health issues.
The researchers agree with the hypothesis that domestic violence and abuse causes
mental health conditions. They determined that survivors of DV are likely to be exposed to
mental health problems. S...
