If people were forced to conform to stricter standards of behavior, would there be less crime in the United States?

Sep 8th, 2014

In theory, yes it would, say for example we implement death sentence for every crime or even just "an eye for an eye" system, then it will inflict fear to people and will make them think twice before doing a crime. But through deeper analysis, I would give it doubt, since there are actually other factors to why people do crime, their state of life or the economy for example. If the United States already have a better economy upon implementing that, then perhaps there will be less crime since there are less people suffering from poverty, but if the economy will stay as it is now or will even decrease, crime might not be stopped by stricter regulations and might even just produce more careful criminals. In short, It can be a possible factor, but other factors should still be considered to lessen crimes in the United States.
