shared between the state and the national governments. Therefore, the United States operates
under the principle of federalism, where federal and state governments regulate citizens (Krutz,
2019). The US envisioned federalism majorly because the states in this country had evolved
from distinct colonies with diverse populations. Therefore, there was a need to make state
governments the primary unit of government to citizens (Krutz, 2019). Today, the federal and
state governments perform both diverse and intertwined roles resulting in the varying balance of
