Question 1

Documents 1 and 2 are accounts of the Boston Massacre as narrated by two different
persons who witnessed the unfortunate killings. The confrontation was between Bostonians who
were throwing snowballs at British forces, which left five people dead (Foner, 2017, p.190)The
first version id derived from the Boston Gazette, with the author seemingly biased against the
British based on the report and portrayal of the events as they unfolded. The second account is by
Captain Peterson. Based on his presentation, the British forces had no intention to commit such
atrocities but were pushed to retaliation by the townspeople (“The Boston Massacre 1770, The
British Perspective,” n.d.). The first author, based on his version, is in support of the
townspeople and is out to portray the British forces as having acted in excess and without regard
for human life and dignity. The second, who is in defence of the actions, submit that the forces
never intended to use such force.

the people to retaliate. The author proceeds to indicate that upon questioning the British forces,
they responded to the affirmative as regards to the intention to kill (“Boston Massacre Article,”
n.d.). The article proceeds to give an account of the young people killed during the confrontation,
as well as demonstrating how inhumanly they were butchered. Because of this imagery, the
readers would get agitated at the British forces, which would cause social unrest and lack of
