Ethical Approaches to Gender-Based Violence
The paper examines the ethical approaches to gender-based violence. The Virtue Ethical
Approach and the Relativism Approach are discussed. Finally, the paper explains why one of the
methods is superior. Violence against women refers to the ferocious activities that are motivated
by gender differences and are aimed at girls and women. The viciousness manifests itself in a
myriad of ways, including rape, female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and others. In
addition to being a degradation of the United Nations Charter on Human rights, violence against
women is also illegal in the majority of the world’s jurisdictions. However, more than 40
countries don’t have laws that expressly prohibit any form of gender-based ferocity. Because of
its adverse socio-economic effects, a lasting solution must be found.
Virtue Approach
The personal traits, beliefs, and characteristics of a person can make one a perpetrator of
gender-based violence. The Virtue Ethical Approach aims to examine how changing people’s
virtues can curb the spread of violence against girls and women. To begin with, most victims of
gender-based violence undergo their ordeals at the hands of those closest to them. Thus, the
abusers would be their husbands or boyfriends. Studies have revealed that these partners have
