The intake of different foods determines the health of a person. Different types of foods
provide certain benefits to the body. My intake of grains has been way below the recommended
levels. My actual intake of grains gave me 1.0 oz. eq. as compared to the recommended levels of
9.0 oz. eq. I should increase my intake of whole grains which means they should cover about
one-fourth of my plate. I did not meet the required intake, whereby at least half of my grains
should be whole grains. It is risky because this increases the chances of getting diabetes type 2
and heart diseases. The servings could be improved through the intake of sorghum, corn, and rice
among other common whole grains. My intake of vegetables is also below the required levels. I
need to increase my intake to achieve the target of 3.5 cup eq. from the current 0.167 cup eq. The
risk of this trend is that I could increase the risk of getting digestive complications and
cardiovascular problems.
My fruit intake is also below the target of 2.0 cup eq. I am currently taking an average of
0.333 cup eq. The dangers are that I could have low immunity and metabolic disorders. I could
