1) Write the converse and the contrapositive of “If James lot is full, then I am late to class."
2) Is the statement p = q equivalent to the statement q = p. Use Truth Tables to show your answer.
3) Construct a proof using direct inference: if m is an integer such that mạ is odd, then m is odd.
4) Construct a proof using the contrapositive rule: ifm is an integer such that mạ is odd, then m is odd.
5) Use proof by contradiction to show that if x2 + x = 0, then x # 2

University of Phoenix Data Analysis and Random Variables Discussion Post
Respond to the following discussion prompt in a minimum of 175 - 500 words:Many business activities generate data that can be thought of as random. An example described in the textbook is the servicing of cars at an oil change shop. Each car entering the shop can be considered an experiment with random outcomes. A variable of interest in this experiment could be the amount of time necessary to service the car. Service time will vary randomly with each car.We can often capture the most relevant characteristics of a stochastic process with a simple probability distribution model. We can then analyze the model to make predictions and drive decisions. For instance, we could estimate the number of technicians the oil change shop needs to service demand on a Saturday afternoon. Discuss the following:What is a random variable? How would you differentiate a discrete from a continuous random variable?A laptop manufacturing company has implemented a 2-step process to test the quality of each production batch. In the first step, a technician randomly selects 15 laptops from the batch and determines whether they meet specifications. The batch is considered acceptable provided no more than 1 laptop fails to meet specifications. Otherwise, the entire batch must be tested in the second step. Historical data shows that 95% of the laptops produced adhere to specifications. Discuss the following:What are the 4 characteristics of a binomial experiment? Can we use a binomial distribution to model this process? What is the probability that the entire batch unnecessarily has to be tested if in fact 95% of its laptops conform to specifications? (Hint: Use Excel’s =BINOMDIST() function to find the probability.)What is the probability that the batch is incorrectly accepted if only 75% of its laptops conform to specifications?

There are 10 athletes entered in a race. If a gold,
silver, or bronze medal is given to three of the athletes, in how many
ways can one pick the winners of the gold, silver, and bronze medals? There are 10 athletes entered in a race. If three identical
gold medals are given to the group of athletes, in how many ways can
one pick the winners of the gold medals?
A card is drawn out of a standard deck of 52 cards. Each card can
be described by giving its "rank" (A, 2, 3, 4,...10, J, Q, K) and its
"suit" (H for hearts, C for clubs, D for diamonds, and S for spades).
For example, 2S denotes the two of spades and KH denotes the king of
hearts. Write out the event described by each of the following statements as a set.
E1: "draw a king."E2: "draw a heart."E3: "draw a face card." (A "face" card is a jack, queen, or king.)E4: "draw a joker."
A card is drawn at random out of a well-shuffled deck of 52 cards. Find the probability of each of the following events. (Do problem #2 first.)
E1: "draw a king."E2: "draw a heart."E3: "draw a face card." (A "face" card is a jack, queen, or king.)E4: "draw a joker."
Out of 420 students who took a statistics test, 260 passed. What percentage of the students passed the test? An employee's hourly wage increased from $11.00 per hour to $13.50 per hour. What is the percentage increase in their wage? Suppose that you deposit $3,250.00 in a savings account that pays 0.4% annual simple interest. Assuming no withdrawals are made, find the balance in the account after 6 years. Round your answer to the nearest penny. Suppose that you deposit $3,250.00 in a savings account that pays
0.4% annual interest, with interest credited to the account at the end
of each year. Assuming no withdrawals are made, find the balance in the
account after 6 years. Round your answer to the nearest penny. Suppose $3,250.00 is invested in a savings account with an APR of
0.4% compounded monthly. Assuming no withdrawals are made, find the
balance in the account after 6 years. Round your answer to the nearest
penny. Submit your answers to the questions above by downloading and completing the Probability I Problem Set Worksheet.
