STATISTICAL CONCEPTS IN HEALTHCARE
Discuss why it is important for a person working in health care to understand statistical
concepts. Provide an example of how statistical data is used in your organization or
specialty area today and what you are expected to do with this information as a
practitioner.
Having statistical knowledge is one of the main pillars of an effective healthcare
program. Therefore, for a healthcare provider to remain relevance and efficient in the field, it
is crucial that he or she must have the statistical concepts at hand. Some of them include data
collection and data analysis. The two subjects are the most necessary in the discipline of
statistics. To start with, health care are tasked with the responsibility of assessing how
different risk factors affect the people’s health. To do this, data from various factors affecting
people’s health is collected and analyzed.
For instance, the medical team may be interested in determining how pollution
contributes to health hazards (Arnaud et al., 2017). They will therefore need to collect data
from various parts of the world that are polluted. They will then identify the affected people
and assess the extent to which pollution poses the health risk. After taking samples from
different people, the team can further come up with various inferences from the data. Some of
the statistical inferences that they can draw from such data include; ‘there is a strong
correlation between pollution and certain diseases such as lung disease’. Such inference can
be used to inform better decisions for the people by providing recommendations on how
pollution can...
