Etiology of the Possible Symptoms Presented
Attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder, commonly referred to as ADHD, is a chronic
illness diagnosed in the early stages of childhood development and normally affect the adulthood
of the patient. ADHD consists of a broad range of persistence problems including impulsive
behaviour as in the case of Jeremy and difficulties in sustaining attention as in the case of
Leonard. Jeremy is predominantly hyperactive while Leonard is predominantly inattentive.
Although professionals have not identified the causes of ADHD, symptoms can be caused by
problems related to the environment or genetics. Also, such symptoms may be a result of defects
in the central nervous system during a child's development. Premature birth, as well as maternal
drug abuse, can also be factors that contribute to ADHD (Mayo Clinic, 2020).
