Active listening - listen to what they are telling . Make them think that you are paying full attention to them .
(Empathy)Try to find out who they are - Try to findout their accent , language . Indirectly ask them for example ex- "you from south brother ? . Love the beaches and food over there ?". Don't directly ask them for information . Try to hear background voices if they are talking either their team . You have to understand them correctly .
Try to buy more time . - You have balance the negotiations in such a way that they don't realise that you are distracting them from their original goal . Try to divert their attention to why arenthey doing this . What caused them to take this path . Ask about themselves , anything as long as it keeps them distracted .
(Rapport)Try to make them trust you- Once you think they are comfortable talking to you , make them trust you . Talk with them franklyand calmly but don't spill the beans . Don't reply too fast . Don't make them feel suspicious .
Never interrupt or evaluate in between - Hostages smell schemes easily . Don't disagree .
