America's religious landscape has witnessed tremendous changes in the last decade and
presently more varied than at any time since the advent of contemporary sociological
measurements. As present as a decade ago, white Christians dominated the landscape; currently,
they account for less than half of the public. Additionally, white evangelical Protestants account
for less than 17 percent of the total American population.
Compared to a decade ago, considerably fewer Americans about 13 percent categorize as
white Protestant, while 11 percent are white Catholic. Additionally, only 2 percent of the white
population identify as Mormons. Primarily, America remains a relatively Christian nation but not
as it used to be. Generally, 70 percent of the American people identify with the Christian religion,
while 5 percent consider themselves non-Christian. The remainder of the population either does
