Summary of the Article
Despite the fact that Oromia is one of the regions in Ethiopia, it is faced with a security
challenge. The region is recognized as being the home of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. His
efforts in addressing ethnic conflicts have been successful. The government of the prime minister
had been able to resolve the clashes between the Somali and the Oromo groups. However, the
murder of Hachalu Hundessa, who is a well-known singer in the region, has caused a lot of
conflicts in the area. Through his songs, Hachalu always addressed the need for recognizing the
rights of the Oromo. The ethnic violence in the area affected many people because it led to the
murder of approximately 239 citizens (Gedamu, 2020).
As a result of the murder of the many citizens in the region, the government shut down
internet access in the country. The aim of doing this was to prevent the spread of news all over
the world. The violence has seen many government officials, security officers, and the citizens
being kidnapped. Various people, such as Jawar Mohammed, were arrested and accused ethnic
violence incitation. Jawar was the director of the Media network for the Oromia. Instead of
calling for efforts to be made to end the violence, the network called for some more.
According to the article, Abiy is playing a vital role in supporting national reconciliation
