Description
Instructions
In this unit, you have learned about the diversity, structure, and function of plant species on Earth. This research paper will have you further explore the species you selected to profile in the Unit IV Annotated Bibliography.
Your research paper should accomplish the following objectives:
- Provide a description of the plant species you selected including kingdom, scientific name, common names/names, related species, and any other taxonomic information you find relevant.
- Discuss what compelled you to choose this particular species to profile. Why is it of interest to you?
- Describe the geographic range or distribution of the species. Where specifically does it live? Is it widespread or restricted in range?
- Describe the ecology and life history of the species. Is your species an angiosperm? How do you know? What are its pollinators? How are its seeds dispersed?
- Discuss any conservation issues with your species, especially if it is threatened or endangered. Is anything being done to save the species? If so, what?
Your research paper should be at least two full pages in length and include an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. You are required to cite at least two sources from the CSU Online Library and two additional sources of your own choosing, for a minimum of four sources. You are encouraged to use the references from the Unit IV Annotated Bibliography assignment, but it is not a requirement. An abstract is not required.
All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations following APA Style guidelines.

Avocado Plant Persea Americana Mill
The avocado plant Persea Americana is a tropical evergreen fruit plant originating from
native America and is genetically grouped into three races; Mexican, West Indian, and
Guatemalan. Naturally, it survives in diverse environmental conditions, evident from its
cultivation in frost central Mexican highlands and the northwest Columbian rain forest. The fruit
was cultivated in Mesoamerica before being a global commercial crop in 1900 (Abraham,
Abraham, and Takrama, 2018). This paper will mainly describe characteristics, the population
structure, genetic diversity, the uses, taxonomic classification, common names, and its related
species. The ecology of the fruit will be discussed as well as its pollinators and seed dispersion
mechanisms. The paper will also discuss why Avocado was chosen for the study and describe the
fruit's geographical distribution globally. Finally, we shall review the ecological threats that the
plant faces and the conservation measure to ensure the species' continuity.
Avocado, whose species name is Persea Americana Mill, is an American native tropical
fruit belonging to the kingdom Plantae and the Lauraceae family. The plant falls in the
