a) Which cities in Italy and Tanzania are comparable to Atlanta in terms of population
size? Use the same Wikipedia population page as before to compare population
numbers. Name a few basic facts about those two cities. You may use Wikipedia for
this, I’ve checked the two articles. Search for those two cities and paraphrase some
important items – especially, describe the location of these two cities with regard to
the rest of the continent, and the ocean coast. “Paraphrase” means: Don’t copy and
paste – a high VeriCite score will lower your grade! Use your own words.
According to Wikipedia (2019), the city of Genoa in Italy and Arusha in Tanzania have
nearly the same population as Atlanta in United States of America. With a respective population
of 574, 090 and 416, 442 for Genoa- Italy and Arusha- Tanzania, the population size of two
cities are nearly equal to 506, 811 of Atlanta. Atlanta is the 37th popular city in America.
Genoa is found between Apennine Mountains and Ligurian Sea in Genoa Gulf at 44024’40’ at
the North and 8055’5’ on the East. Genoa city occupies an area of 243 square kilometers and
stretches for 10 KM from the coast to north along the Bisagno and Polcevera valley and 30 KM
along the coast. Some of the popular vacation spots adjacent to Genoa city are Portofino and
Camogli. On the other hand Arusha is located in north eastern region of Tanzania at coordinates

4
03022’ on the south and 36041’ on the East. The city does not have an ocean coast but it is
found below mount Meru of the Great Rift Valley.
b) (Ignore Atlanta in all the following items). Besides very high population figures,
what do the cities on the map have in common? Look at the map ! Justify your
answer. Analyze. Discuss in depth. Name a few examples.
The countries are strategically positioned along the tectonic plate’s boundaries. The boundaries
are along known as Earth plates. The boundaries jostle in fits and starts thus causing volcanic
eruptions and earthquakes. The boundaries/lithosphere has both major and minor plates
embedded across the continents which are crucial in shaping the earth. As a result, the movement
of these boundaries/ plates causes divergent, convergent and transform tectonic boundaries.
c) What can you conclude from your map, in terms of future natural occurrences at
these locations? Justify your answer. Analyze. Discuss in depth. Name a few
examples.
The future natural occurrences will occur along the plate boundaries. Most of the countries that
are prone to volcanic eruptions or earthquakes occurs in particular area along the plates. For
example, the circum-Pacific Ring of fire is highly prone to tectonic movement. The region
experiences volcanic eruptions and seismic movement due to surrounding plate convergence
with pacific plate. For example, the Chilean earthquakes is related to Nazca plate subduction to
the east.
d) Which 3 cities are at greatest risk from natural disaster, judging from the...
