Amtrak is the trademark name of the National Railways Passenger Corporation. It deals
with railroad services providing medium and long distance train transport services between
various cities (Cloutier & Engineer-Track, 2014). It was founded in 1971 to run the major
portion of US passenger train transportation. It gets operated as a profit-making a corporation,
though it is partially funded and partially government owned. The accident incident that
happened in 1993 gave the company a big blow in all aspects from economic to social and
community approval to internal structure. The event became a significant a game changer for the
giant in the rail track services to the Americans.
Stakeholders in the case
The incident prompts us to look into the various stakeholders involved. The first group of
stakeholders is the passengers on the train on that fateful night. They are the direct victims of the
ramifications of that grisly derailment. Some of them lost their lives; others got injured while
others were shocked and traumatized to their very core. The sight of witnessing their fellows die
in flames and heaps of mud and rubble left most of the survivors with nightmares in their lives.
The other stakeholders are stockholders and owners of the Amtrak Company. These are the
people who received the massive blow of the merciless fist of fate that day. Losing vast sums of
money in the destruction of the rail cars and later in compensation charges to meet the demands
of the families of the victims. The employees of the company are also among the list of
stakeholders in this case. They have concerns about safety with the trains henceforth and those
who sustained injuries need appropriate negotiations with their employer.
The above groups of stakeholders would come up with several divergent interests in the
entire situation. The owners of the company and government have interests to see the corporation
up and running again to continue generating profits and sustain their financial integrity. The

passengers are interested in proper compensation and a future assurance of safety while traveling
on the rails in Amtrak trains. They need a procedural handling of the fate that met them under the
shade of the Amtrak machines in a manner that will leave them satisfied with the company’s
concern for them. Those who lost their family member...
