Entrapment is a term used in criminal proceedings to refer to a case in which an
individual is prompted into acting in a criminal manner, by government officials, with the aim of
prosecuting the lured person for that specific crime. According to Wright (2016), on May 16,
2016, a case was brought before a Morris County jury where pharmacist Srinivasa Raju was
accused of illegally dispensing prescription painkillers to people without prescriptions for the
drugs. However, Raju’s lawyer, Michael Farrell, argued that the pharmacist was entrapped by
law enforcement officers into dispensing the highly addictive painkiller, oxycodone to an
undercover Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent and her cooperating source.
