How Neurons work and Descriptions of Functions of all Neuron Parts
Billions of cells called neurons make up the nervous system. A neuron serves in the
system as a medium to obtain and transfer information to other parts. Under the microscopic
observation, neurons have three main parts. They include axon, dendrite, and soma. The axon
has a role in transmitting information to the other neurons, glands, or muscles away from the
soma. The dendrites are branching treelike fiber that gathers data from other cells and directs the
cell body's information.
On the other hand, the cell body's job is to contain the cell nucleus and sustain the cell
active. Other significant parts of the neuron include the nucleus, myelin sheath, Node of Ranvier,
Schwann cell, axon terminal, and the cell membrane. The cell membrane safeguards the entire
cell. The nucleus controls activities of the whole cell, the Node of Ranvier permits the diffusion
of ions, the myelin sheath boosts the transmission rate of signals. The Schwann cell produces the
myelin sheath, and finally, the axon terminal creates junctions with other cells (Spielman et ...
