MSN FP6218 Capella University Assessing Community Health Care Needs Report
Overview – Assessment 2 – MSN-FP6218 Assess the health care needs of a selected community by completing an environmental analysis and a virtual windshield survey. Summarize the results of your assessment in a 2–3-page executive summary. Note: The work you complete in this assessment serves as the basis for Assessments 3 and 4. Therefore, complete assessments 2, 3, and 4 in the order in which they are presented. Health care must be evidence-based, effective, efficient, and affordable; it must provide resources that meet the needs of the community. Nurse leaders must understand and thoroughly evaluate the environment to enable the efficient and equitable allocation of resources. A useful tool for this type of assessment is commonly called a windshield survey. Windshield surveys are what you might expect from the name. They are a way of gathering information about specific aspects of a community while driving around, such as the condition of roads, buildings, and housing. This assessment provides an opportunity to examine the prevailing health conditions and social determinants of health in a community by completing an environmental analysis and a virtual windshield survey based on communities within the Vila Health system. Although Vila Health is a virtual lab, the communities represented in this simulation are real, enabling you to conduct an actual community health assessment. By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria: Competency 1: Identify the challenges and opportunities facing health care. Assess, via a windshield survey, the general condition and needs of a community from a public health perspective. Analyze the environmental factors affecting population health in a community. Identify the social determinants of health in a community. Competency 4: Develop proactive strategies to change the culture of the organization by incorporating evidence-based practices. Summarize windshield survey and environmental analysis findings for executive leaders. Competency 5: Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, in an appropriate form and style consistent with applicable organizational, professional, and scholarly standards. Write clearly and concisely in a logically coherent and appropriate form and style. Support assertions, arguments, propositions, and conclusions with relevant and credible evidence. Resources Required Resources The following resource is required to complete the assessment. Vila Health: Environmental Analysis and Windshield Survey. Vila Health is a virtual environment that simulates a real-world health care system. In the various Vila Health scenarios, you will apply professional strategies, practice skills, and build competencies that you can apply to your coursework and in your career. The information you gather in this scenario will help you to complete the assessment. Templates Use this template for your community health assessment. Community Health Assessment Template [DOCX]. Suggested Resources The resources provided here are optional. You may use other resources of your choice to prepare for this assessment; however, you will need to ensure that they are appropriate, credible, and valid. The MSN6218 – Leading the Future of Health Care Library Guide can help direct your research, and the Supplemental Resources and Research Resources, both linked from the left navigation menu in your courseroom, provide additional resources to help support you. Preparation Executive leaders at Vila Health have asked you to provide them with your assessment of the health conditions in one of the communities served by the Vila Health system. Knowing that a windshield survey is needed to validate any underlying assumptions about the needs of the community and inform evidence-based decision making and strategic planning, you have decided to conduct a first-hand exploration of the community, followed up by an environmental analysis. An environmental analysis examines the factors that can influence the performance of a health care organization, which is important in a rapidly changing health care environment. To prepare for the assessment, you are encouraged to begin thinking about how an environmental analysis and windshield survey contribute to assessing community health care needs. In addition, you may wish to: Review the assessment requirements and scoring guide to ensure that you understand the work you will be asked to complete. Review the Guiding Questions: Assessing Community Health Care Needs document linked in the Resources of this assessment, which includes questions to consider and additional guidance on how to successfully complete the assessment. Note: Remember that you can submit all or a portion of your draft assessment to Smarthinking Tutoring for feedback before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 24–48 hours for receiving feedback. Requirements Complete this assessment in two steps: The community health assessment requirements outlined below, correspond to the grading criteria in the scoring guide, so be sure to address each point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed. information on the web about the Osher Center
There is ample information on the web about the Osher Center, however, and I invite you to search the various sites that pop up by simply using "osher vanderbilt" as a Google search term. use this web https://www.vanderbilthealth.com/osher/reviewing the information available to you via this search, you will immediately find that this is a set of services that represents what I believe most would call a major departure for a large metropolitan health system, especially in the deep South. I love the strategic marketing consideration of the Osher Center, because it represents much of what we will study going forward: breaking new ground with a product or service, how to best evaluate this "out of the box" departure from a marketing perspective, projecting obstacles and means to overcome them, etc. Please use the following questions as guidelines (suggestions only...feel free to improvise and deviate depending on your findings) to strategically evaluate this component of Vanderbilt. What do you consider to be the likeliest strategic challenges facing the Osher Center? If you were appointed V.P. of marketing for the Osher Center, what do you think your first steps would be in evaluating the market? What 3rd party pay obstacles might you anticipate in providing this array of services?Assuming the answer to the above implies some 3rd party pay limitations vis-a-vis more "mainstream" health care services in the market, how might this impact your strategic marketing plan? How well, in your informed opinion, is this set of services positioned relative to the future manifestations of health care reform (the Affordable Care Act, and whatever modifications to it may be forthcoming) ?

GCU Educative Discussion
***Make a Comment***As defined in our textbook descriptive statistics is a summary statement about a set of cases and inferential statistics uses a sample of cases to draw a conclusion about a population (Corty, 2016). Compare and contrast descriptive and inferential statistics: descriptive statistics sums up the total of the data that are grouped into variables than examines the values for each variable of data set and in inferential statistics the data is described beyond this by helping researchers draw a conclusion from a sample to a population set. (Guetterman, 2019). So basically, descriptive statistics is confined to a particular set of data and inferential statistics can generalize beyond the data (McGregor, 2018). Some common descriptive statistics used are measures of central tendency, and measures of variability and some common inferential statistics used are t tests, analysis of variance, correlation, and regression. Both are used in the analysis of public health data due to both having different types of measurements or approaches to complete/conduct research.

Assessment Instructions Note: You will use the Vila Health community you select for this assessment and the information you compile about the community, as the basis for Assessments 3 and 4. The Guiding Questions: Assessing Community Health Care Needs document provides additional considerations that may be helpful in completing your assessment. In addition, be sure to note the requirements below for document format and length and for citing supporting evidence. Assess, via a windshield survey, the general condition and needs of a community from a public health perspective. Analyze the environmental factors affecting population health in a community. Identify the social determinants of health in a community. Summarize windshield survey and environmental analysis findings for executive leaders. Write clearly and concisely in a logically coherent and appropriate form and style. Support findings and conclusions with relevant and credible evidence. Document Format and Length Use the Community Health Assessment Template, linked in the Resources of this assessment. An APA Style Paper Tutorial is also provided to help you in writing and formatting your assessment. If you would like to use a different worksheet for your community health assessment, obtain prior approval from faculty. The executive summary portion of your survey and analysis should be 2–3 pages in length. Be sure to apply correct APA formatting to all source citations and references. Supporting Evidence Cite 3–5 credible sources from peer-reviewed journals or professional industry publications to support your executive summary. Additional Requirements Proofread your executive summary before you submit it, to minimize errors that could distract readers and make it more difficult for them to focus on the substance of your assessment.

information on the web about the Osher Center
