Respond to the following: How did planning this change project and completing the program change your career or outlook on your career? Reply to at least two of your classmates  ATHY NEES The focus of my change project plan concentrated on effective communication between nurse and patient as well as between team members. The impacts of verbal interactions can motivate, inspire, and guide all stakeholders. Communication builds trusting relationships that is an essential component in leadership (Baker, Mathis, Stites-Doc, & Javadian, 2016). The information given by both professors and classmates has been extremely beneficial as I develop my leadership skills. I have discovered leadership characteristics are both instinctive and acquired. Leaders can be visible as well as behind the scenes. There are many valuable qualities necessary to lead others but not all are essential in the beginning; in fact, most require practice and develop over time. For me, those most significant as I evolve in my practice will be extending empathy, transparent communication, and positive feedback. As for the future of my career, I have yet to establish where this journey will take me next. I have touched on many aspects of nursing – bedside care, house supervisor, director of medical surgical unit, and now patient care coordinator. Of all these positions, I know nursing leadership is what I enjoy the most. Completing the BSN program allows me the opportunities to achieve success in any area of nursing.  AMY CORRIE Planning this change project helped me to realize all the background and behind the scenes work and research that goes into implementing changes in the nursing field. I also have a better understanding of the overall change process. “Change occurs over time, often fluctuating between intervals of change then a time of settling and stability” (Velmurugan, 2017, para. 1). Upon completion of this program there will be no immediate change to my career but there is the potential to change it in the future. My outlook on my career moving forward is that I have added to my nursing foundation and explored areas that I had not thoroughly been exposed to. I feel more well-rounded in my nursing education and that I will be more hirable in the future. I am taking pride in my profession and role as a nurse by pursuing higher education that may or may not lead to career advancement. It will however, lead to me to take better care of my patients which is what is most important. “The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as the minimum requirement for entry into registered nursing practice has been a debate in the nursing profession for more than 50 years” (Clifford & Jurado, 2018, para. 1). I have worked at level one trauma centers, Magnet facilities, and university hospitals without having a BSN but this course shows how necessary change can be. In the future a BSN may be the required minimum which I will now be prepared for. I feel more doors can be now opened down the road.
