There are multiple steps or stages involved in the criminal trial in the U.S system of
criminal justice. The stages are six in number and are listed below to have a complete
understanding of each stage.
1. Selection of jury: the first and foremost stage in the trial is selection of a jury.
In many cases the trial may proceed with one judge. However, when more
than one judge is required, the defendant, plaintiff and the attorney will
question different juries about a case to choose the jury for a respective trial.
