Mason says she "wanted to be somebody" (par. 4), particularly someone who is not preoccupied with food. Judging by the essay, to what extent does she succeed? What passages support your view?

She does not succeed. By her overt focus on food and the tirade she carries out, the author quickly enlightens the reader to this irony. Ultimately, the more that Mason attempts to disengage from food, the more it consumes her thoughts and preoccupations.
