John has a certain amount. Mathew has 4 dollars less than John's amount. Together they have $26. How much each has?

Let john's amount be x

Mathew's amount = x-4

x+x-4 =26

2x=26+4=30

x= 30/2 =15

John has $15 and Mathew has $11

John has a certain amount. Mathew has 10 dollars less than John's amount. Together they have $26. How much each has?
