1st Assignment: "Father of the political cartoon."
Thomas Nast played an instrumental role in influencing the much-needed change during the
Gilded Age. Life became generally treacherous for the population of the American city during
this time. Garbage and horse manure littered the cities, and pedestrians could not safely cross
the streets due to the overwhelming wagons, horsecars, carriages, and stagecoaches. Further,
the city got enveloped with fumes emanating from numerous factories around. As the father
of the political cartoon, Nast became an influence of change by using his press freedom and
quest for reform to push for changes. Nast used public power, which he yielded overtime to
make the world a better place to dwell. To bring the corrupt regime down, he continually used
drawings to harass and intimidate, including the revered Tweed Ring (Halloran, 2019). By
taking it upon himself, Nast made a bold attempt to bring the corrupt down by himself that
included the Tweed Ring that had taken firm control of the corrupted city.
The overwhelming influence of Nast had an impact on the power role in the
