You also need to provide two (2) feedback posts to your peers. Each feedback post needs to be 125 words or more, and should include information that helps to enhance the discussion on the topic. One method for topics will be the American Military University library. The library provides information whether it be a books/ebooks, journals and titles, google scholar, magazine just every form of research collectively can be found in the library. My thesis topic is Juveniles should not be punished by the death penalty, because their brains are not fully developed which prohibits sound judgement decisions; resulting in the need for reform within the Criminal Justice System. The first thing I did was go to the library based on my topic and typed in juvenile reform. Reform is what the juvenile justice system needs to be revised with change based on the fact issues occurring within the justice system are unjust on behalf of juvenile delinquency. In order to change the system it has to be reform with updates to institutional incarcerations and punishments stowed within the courts. Institutional racism does exist in America. When you have people within our courts that do not relate to the environment of which communities people come from the ruling of punishment can be a little bit more harsh. Google is a great tool to find records of various cases to support your research. It is a great tool to research the Amendments of the Constitution as well on your topic. Juvenile issues are reflected in the Amendments for example the Eighth Amendment prohibits a juvenile to be sentenced to a life sentence without parole as a juvenile and that juveniles cannot be sentenced to the death penalty. It will bring about me to do more in depth research violations that have occurred and what has changed moving forward to continue to support these sentences not occurring in the future. I'm sure most people have used this resource before. When I first started my course work at AMU, professors would always recommend using this tool; however, I found it confusing at first. Once I really played around with it, I found that it really is useful and can be a great tool to use. My suggestion when using the APUS library is to keep your search relatively broad. With this system, it is best to limit your search to a few concise words. You can accomplish this by trying to think of the simplest way to describe what you're looking for. You don't need to use complete sentences; instead, type a few essential terms. Another useful tool I have used is Google Scholar. This tool is a little more user-friendly than the APUS library. It works similarly to using the general Google search engine. A couple other databases I have used for various papers I have written are Semantic Scholar and CORE. These two are a little less known, but are worth checking out and can be useful in finding additional information on your topic. I have written several papers for school and have found that if you want your work to be of high quality, you need to gather information from reliable sources. Additionally, you have to understand the information that you find. Anyone can search a database and find facts or information. However, you must understand basic research methods. Understanding basic research methods can not only help you find the information you need but also find information that can be considered valid and reliable. Research methods are a specific way or technique that was used to select and analyze information about a particular topic. Becoming familiar with the research methods used by an area of study allows you to understand it more effectively. In a research paper, just like the one we will be executing in this class, the method that is used in the research is essential. It allows you to understand how the data was collected and how it was analyzed, which can have a tremendous impact on how reliable or valid the information really is. The most challenging thing for me when I am searching for information is finding only one or two good sources before I start my paper. I need to spend more time researching multiple databases and sources and organize all the ones I would like to use, then begin my writing. I tend to find one or two sources then jump right into the paper. Spending more time gathering information will help me get all my thoughts together before starting the writing process.
