Case Assignment
For this assignment, you will choose one topic from the list below and write an argumentative essay.
A well-organized essay has a beginning, a middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include an opening sentence to grab your reader’s attention. Follow the opening sentence with a brief background on the topic or situation. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis states the main point of the essay, which in this case, would be a statement affirming the point of view on the selected topic.
A well-supported essay includes supporting points, details, and examples. Each body paragraph must support (explain) your reasoning (rationale) using specific details. Each body paragraph must have a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph.
The conclusion typically summarizes the main points of the essay and/or closes with a lasting impression that connects the reader to their world.
Be sure to proofread your essay and edit for proper grammar, punctuation, diction (word choice), and spelling, as errors in sentence skills will lower a final grade. A grade will be determined based on the Module 4 Case expectations and the Trident University General Education rubric for English.
This essay must include a combination of no less than SIX in-text citations from two or more credible and reliable sources. Citations are to be a combination of direct quotations and paraphrased quotations with or without the author's name, and a Reference List in APA Style must be included.

Impact of Media on Self-Esteem
In this period, dubbed the era of information, the media plays a central role in people's
lives. Developments in the technological field have created new technologies that have boosted
communication and transmission of information. Conventional media platforms like television
and more novel social media platforms have become an integral aspect of people’s lives. People
depend on them for obtaining critical information such as news on events happening elsewhere,
following national and global trends, and even communicating with other people. Such media
have also advertised different products and services. For all their advantages, media platforms
have attracted criticism for their perceived role in causing low self-esteem in their consumers.
This paper argues that advertisements and media platforms negatively affect their consumer’s
self-image, sense of self-worth, and self-esteem.
The media makes its consumers discontented with their situations in life and elicits
jealousy. In the current dispensation, media takes up multiple forms, such as print media,
broadcast, and the internet. Media outlets have often been guilty of driving sensational news
agendas designed to capture people’s attention. Media is obsessed with telling success stories,
and one of the many results is that they exert pressure on people. It creates a skewed perspective
of success by obscuring the struggles that people endure before they become successful. The
obsession with rags to riches stories makes many people feel unaccomplished in life and makes
them jealous of other people who are portrayed to be more successful. Modern media platforms
like social media make the situation worse as people can create fake impressions of success and
mislead others into thinking that their lives are not worthwhile (Jan, Soomro, & Ahmad, 2017).
Such adverse effects derived from the media cause self-deprecation and lowers people's selfesteem.

The media propagates unrealistic concepts of the perfect body for individuals (Mills,
Shannon, & Hogue, 2017). Media outlets tend to reflect what is fashionable, attractive, or trendy
in a society. The main goal behind creating adverts is to create catchy visuals that attract the
attention of viewers. Most adverts use slender female models to bring attention to the products
being marketed. The preference for slim models has fostered perceived unattractiveness, and this
adverse impact has been more prevalent in women. Such advertisements have reinforced the
view that women must become slender and have skin tones to be considered attractive. Given
that people have different body and skin types, the media's constant obsession with the sp...
