According to the textbook, ongoing challenges in the global business environment are mostly attributed to unethical business practices, failure to embrace technology advancements, and stiff competition among businesses. Imagine that you have been appointed as Apple’s Chief Compliance Officer and must prepare a video presentation for Apple’s suppliers regarding Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct to deliver via a web meeting. To prepare for your presentation, review Apple’s Supplier Code of Conduct, located at https://www.apple.com/supplier-responsibility/. Next, use a tablet, smartphone, laptop, desktop, or traditional video recorder to record a maximum of a five to seven (5-7) minute dynamic video on Apple’s Code of Conduct. Alternatively, you may submit a four to six (4-6) page paper instead of the video submission. The PowerPoint presentation is still required with the paper.

You must submit both parts of the assignment to receive full credit.

Part 1: Video Presentation OR Paper

Prepare and present a video that is a maximum of five to seven (5-7) minutes OR write a four to six (4-6) page paper in which you:

  2. Explain the identified changes to the suppliers in such a way that they will understand the standards that Apple requires in order to maintain their relationship with the company.

  3. Provide detailed speaker notes of what you would say if you were delivering the presentation.
  4. Submit a reference page with at least two (2) quality references that you have used for this presentation / paper. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your PowerPoint presentation must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Include a title slide containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The title and reference slides are not included in the required slide length.

Apple’s Code of Conduct
Introduction

Apple’s code of conduct was formulated to protect the interest of all employees working
for the company irrespective of the geographical location of Apple’s sub-branch companies. The
code of conduct serves as a blueprint of all rules and guidelines to be followed by all employees
(Rabia Iftikhar, 2013). It outlines all the recruitment procedures to be followed by all suppliers.
When any rules or regulations under the code of conduct are breached Apple provides room for
remedies in the form of compensation from the affected parties. When supplies break the
contract that is in place, they directly compensate affected parties. Apple remains one of the
companies making dynamic changes that address changing needs of its employees and suppliers
across the whole world.
Recent Changes to Apples Code of Conduct
Labour and Human Rights
Apple believes in equal, ethical and fair treatment of employees. Apple requires all
employees irrespective of their ethnic race to be treated with dignity and respect (Erwin, 2011).
All suppliers are required to uphold human rights. Apple’s human rights law does not allow any
form of discrimination of employees in the workplace. Suppliers are not allowed to discriminate
employees based their race, ethnicity, nationality or gender (“Apple Supplier Code of Conduct
Labor and Human Rights,” 2016). Also, they are not supposed to take any medical or pregnant
tests unless it has been determined that such tests may be important in protecting the safety of
employees. Apple’s code of conduct has specific guidelines preventing the harassment and abuse
of employees. Suppliers are not allowed to threaten workers that they currently work with.
Verbal abuse, psychological and sexual harassment, as well as coercion, are outlawed by the

code of conduct (“Apple Supplier Code of Conduct Labor and Human Rights,” 2016). The code
of conduct outlaws the withholding of employees identification cards. It also requires that all
labour laws are signed after all employees have been read out the code of conduct in a
comprehensible language to the workers. The code of conduct also prevents suppliers from
employing underage children (“Apple Supplier Code of Conduct Labor and Human Rights,”
2016). In one scenario, several suppliers were found to have employed underage children against
the rules of Apple. The company forced the suppliers to take the children back to school and
cater for their education. Later on, the same suppliers were supposed to employ the same
children after they finished school. In another instance, the...
