Cultures have different ways of expressing themselves with hand gestures, facial
expressions, and the speech skills which vary from one culture to another. Employers need to
take caution when dealing with their employees especially since they may have different cultural
backgrounds and also have different personalities. It is important that one on one contact is used
often as possible compared to the use of technology however efficient and current it may be.
Employers should look to work with each employee and hear them out on how they are affected
by the job they are working on, or what they may need to improve their performance at the
workplace (Deresky and Christopher, 2012). Attention to the employees, attending to their needs
personally, rewarding the employees when exemplary duties are done, and even delegation of
specific duties will affect the performance of the employees because of the motivation they
receive from a concerned employer.
The cultures that require more one on one meetings are especially those where the
manager and the employees speak different languages, for instance US managers trying to
communicate with non-English speakers such as Spanish employee, and can be misunderstood
for lack of using appropriate words in their conversation. Also, people from different cultures use
body language or may react differently by changing moods when presented with an idea that
they feel comfortable. The culture in US is especially not explained to foreigners when they
come in and they find it difficult to air their views....
