initiates actions to mould decisions into concrete actions. For a manager to be called a
managerial leader, he/she has to lead his/her subordinates through guiding them and motivating
them in the course of performing important tasks in an organization. Therefore a managerial
leader is that kind of manager that guides, instructs, leads and motivates his/her subordinates so
as to make use of their skills, efficiency and capacity for the good of the organization. (Yukl
2002)
Functions of a managerial leader
A managerial leader is a representative of an organization to the workers and the other
stakeholders in the outside world. He/she acts as a link between the management of the
organization and the staff members. He/she is supposed to sit on the board to represent the
workers and report to the management on how work is being done by the staff. (Yukl 2002)
A managerial leader also takes part in the motivation of workers just in case it is realized that the
knowledge and skills of the workers is being underutilized. This could be through getting them to
attend meetings and briefings on what to do
Finally, he/she engages the issues concerning the staff members e.g. problems and feelings on
different matters and tries to solve them amicably (Yukl 2002)
