INTRODUCTION Word is probably the best-known and most commonly used of the programs in Microsoft's Office suite. This lab presents an introduction to (or review of) Word. It exercises a number of basic operations for file interactions, editing, and formatting of documents. Throughout, remember the "Undo" button. It may come in handy. (Ctrl – Z) WHAT TO DO Begin by opening Word. To find the program, click All Programs, scroll down to Microsoft Office, click that, and then click Word. Now carry out the following steps. 1. Open a blank document. (Many templates are available, too. We won't use one here.) 2. Begin your document with your name, your tech id, and "Lab1." 3. Write about any 3 of the following topics: • Digitizing Information • Stored-program computers • Transistors • Integrated Circuits • Personal Computers • The Internet • World Wide Web • Layered Software For each topic insert a picture in the document. (Pictures can be downloaded using web browser). 4. Use the arrow keys to move around the text. Note that, when the Ctrl key is held down, the left and right arrow keys move over entire words. 5. Use shift key for selecting text. 6. Highlight and delete some text. 7. Move some text by using cut-and-paste and by dragging highlighted text. 8. bold.
