Part 1: Select an Organization to Be Studied
There are a number of ways in which an organization can be selected. One option is to look outside your organization for companies that would be interested in participating in the project. Another is to volunteer your own organization, or if you are not currently employed, use a church, school, club, or other organization.
Once your organization has been selected, you will need to learn a lot about it. It is essential for you to understand the organization’s business, goals, objectives, and mission in order to complete this project successfully. (Submit the information on your selected organization to your Dropbox by the end of Week 1—this is an ungraded step but required and essential to help you make sure you are on the right track.) Also note that you will be submitting a progress report for this project in Week 5 in the Minipaper assignment—this is worth 100 points.

Introduction
My organization of choice to study is Starbucks Corporation. This company name came
from the chief mate in Moby-Dick, a book. The company existence was in as one single store
back in the year 1971 in Seattle Washington. It was started by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and
Gordon Bowker. It was an inspiration a chief mate to start this company, hence the name
Starbucks. The company now registers more than twenty one thousands stores in more than sixty
countries (www.starbucks.com). The company is positive that more stores will be opened
globally with time.
The company’s business
When the company was being started, it was concentrating on coffee alone but with time
it introduced other things and entered other industries. Like with spotify, it is clear that the
company has entered the music industry. The company has also entered the lodging services
company, something that was not there when the company was being started. Currently, travelers
go to Starbucks for lodging services whereby they also get served with food and refreshments.
This business has proved to be very effective with regard to the returns it has made to the
company. Other companies in the industry, after seeing how this business has been successful for
Starbucks have been forced to follow suit and currently many companies in the coffee industry
offer the lodging services to the travelers and other people who are willing to be accommodated
