Introduction
•
Gottfried Helnwein is a great artist who is paints controversial paintings that
provoke through psychological, political and historical messages. In this
presentation, three painting from his tragedy of war series are used. The series
shows transition of innocent people, from innocence to killers. He is a good
choice, given his great talent in painting, and his hate for virtue; more
especially war.
•
Bruno Haberzettl is a fine cartoonist who focuses his works on animal rights
activism and has embraced themes that capture the attention of children. He is
an artist with a unique drive. His main message to children is that they should
be friendly to animals. He is a great choice because his works aims at saving
future wildlife and animal welfare, through instillation of such lessons to
children. However, his third drawing is out of children and animals. He is
against old men dating young ladies shamelessly, drinking with them, and the
ladies dressing indecently in the presence of these men.

The haberzettl radfahrer 650 Visual Analysis
•
It translates to habererzettl biker 650, which is a drawing that is used in his book bruno
jagdefeiber. The book is meant to teach children on the need to stop the killing of animals.
•
The drawing was published with the book in June of 2006.
•
It comes from a scene of bikers in the wild who scared off the animals, seen by Bruno.
•
The culture of bike riding in the wild, and the reluctance of game wardens, was, and still is, a
major challenge to wildlife, but the game wardens celebrate losses, as seen in the picture,
playing violin at the scene of the accident.
•
The cultures help in the development of the picture, bringing an impression of ‘sweet sorrow’
, after a rider gets into an accident with the animals and the wardens surround the scene with
some musical instruments.
•
The drawing is a clear modern technology art piece drawing that is designed on a computer
and printed on paper.
•
The characters are the biker, who is the violator of animal rights, the game wardens, who are
playing music at the scene. The animals hit are on the ground as well. The bike has been hit to
a point of loosing shape.
The haberzettl radfahrer 650:
Function and purpose
• The drawing is aimed at showing the risk of riding or using
locomotives in the wild. ‘
• It also aims at showing that the game guards are very reluctant in
saving such situations, and seem to enjoy such scenes.
• The function is to instil fear in the game riders, and open the eyes
of the game guards.
• The material brings out the meaning, and the audience being
mainly the children, it is aimed at saving the game from the
negatives of game riders. It is clear and well communicated.

Bruno Tierleben visual analysis
•
Bruno Tierleben is a drawing by Bruno that was created in the year 2014.
•
It shows a harmonized relationship between a human being and a bear,
with the two having a bear in a house, with a rat going on with its
businesses at the background.
•
It is trying to bring out the required state of relationship in the culture of
existence between human beings and animals.
•
The harmony between the bear and the man give children (his main
audience) a challenge that animals are not all bad, so I thing the culture
demonstration from the image works fine in delivering the main theme
of the drawing.
•
The drawing is also done through computer graphics and printed on
paper.
•
The characters are the bear, the man and thee rat, busy at the
background. The bear and the man are in harmony and the drinking beer.
•
The rat is at ease, meaning it is also comfortable. We can only see the
tail.
Bruno Tierleben :
Function and purpose
•
The drawing is designed to promote the harmony between human beings and
animals, with children being the major audience, therefore making it a long-term
goal.
•
The drawing also shown how easy and sweet life could be if we befriended
animals. Bears are always aggressive against human, but he try’s to communicate
that if we are kind and good with animals, they can reciprocate.
•
The message, being mostly addressed to children can be effective, increasing the
chances of children trying out to befriend animal pets. The image, however,
cannot convince a logical thinker, that there can be such an exaggerated
relationship between humans and animals.
•
The exaggeration makes it suitable for children only.

The disaster of war 1 Visual analysis
• The image shows two girls who were affected by the
war. One is in the dark and appears depressed like
she is hiding. The other one is in light, but has blood
smeared all over her body. Their faces display
solitude.
• The painting is made of oil on acrylic canvas. The
painting was designed in the year 2007. The size is
55 x 97'‘.
• The culture displayed in the photo is one where
children were left alone, hiding and smeared by
blood in fighting community.
The disaster of war 1 :
Function and purpose
• The two girls seems depressed and the effect of sympathy is achieved.
• It is trying to prove to the world that war is a negative thing, and try to
change the situation.
• Children are innocent beings, and use of a little girl with blood splashed
all over her body is a very powerful message, that the cause of the
bloodshed should be avoided.
• A small girl seen in deep contrition achieves the sense that war does not
only leave grown ups in stress, but affects the psychological and
emotional state of children.
The disaster of war 19: Culture and
Visual analysis
•
The painting is an oil on acrylic canvas type, 59 x 63’’ in
size. It was designed in the 2007, which means that its
message is addressed to the modern world.
•
It displays a soldier rescuing a small girl from a war field,
where property has been destroyed, with the soldier
carrying her on his shoulders. There is another young lady
sitting close to the scene who shows to be in total distress.
•
The culture of war comes in again, and the destruction in
the background, the state of depression of the character
and the presence of the soldier with thee wrecked girl on
his shoulders are some proof of the distress caused by
war.
The disaster of war 19 :
Purpose and function
•
The painting is aimed at teaching the negative harm of war. Once again, a little
girl has been used, to prove innocence and needless victimization resulting
from war.
•
The culture displayed in the photo is one where children were left alone,
hiding and smeared by blood in fighting community.
•
The function is to stop war, considering what might happen to innocent
children.
•
The function and purpose is clearly brought out in the psychological distress in
the lady watching the scene, the suffering of the little girl being rescued, and
the sacrifice made by the soldier. The background also shows destruction of
property.
•
The disaster of war 24: Culture and
Visual analysis
The oil on acrylic canvas masterpiece is made on a material size 76 x 95’’. It
fits in the 21st century culture, being drawn in the year 2007. Considering
the picture as the 24th in the series, girls who were innocent in war times
have evolved to strong weapon users, and possibly killers.
•
It displays a girl, holding a gun, with the eyes blind folded by a white
bandage. She seems to be training to be a killer. In the image, she is pointing
a gun on a doll.
•
The culture displayed is one where children have grown, knowing that they
have to be killers to survive, and they were training on how to use
dangerous weapons due to war. They are also training on how to hide their
identity. At these point, they have learned much vices, and have learned
that they cannot survive if they play innocent.
•
The culture of war comes in again, and the destruction in the background,
the state of depression of the character and the presence of the soldier with
thee wrecked girl on his shoulders are some proof of the distress caused by
war.
The disaster of war 24 :
Purpose and function
•
It is clear, that the young girl is strong enough to hold a gun and hide her
identity. It bring the impression that, after a long progressive wars, the
innocent are also turned into killers, mainly for survival.
•
The main purpose of the painting is to teach that war can change people to
killers, even when they are supposed to be innocent. The painting uses a
young girl, and from what we seen, a young girl represents innocence at the
beginning of war (the disaster of war 1 and 19).
•
No single parent would like to see their child doing such acts, and that can only
happen if war is given space in the 21st community. The drawing is a good
lesson to parents and the world at large, to end wars.
THREE MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MANFRIED DEIX AND BRUNO
HABERZETTL ART MASTER PIECES
• Bruno is focused on
children as his target
audience. Most of his
drawing has animal
characters, relating with
humans. His theme is
harmonizing of human
and animals, for better
coexistence.
•Manfred targets people
in position of power, with
capacities to stop war.
Most of his drawing has
little girls, destroyed
communities at the
background.
His major theme is the
negative consequences of
war on innocent souls.
