Introduction
This paper analyses the issues apparent from the case in Bartlett and Barlow’s Clayton
Industries, Inc.: Peter Arnell, Country Manager for Italy (2010). The study focuses on the
challenges experienced by Peter, who has just started managing the Italian subsidiary of the
multinational corporation based in the USA. The case study elaborates on the problems faced by
the company thereby eliciting a need for analyzing existing potential solutions. In this paper, we
identify a receding economic environment, turbulent union relations, increasing material costs,
and loyal nationalistic consumerism as some of the specific issues that have combined to strike
blows on Clayton’s Italian subsidiary resulting in losses for three consecutive years.
Accordingly, the essay shall advance recommendations on potential decisions that Peter should
