Outline Case Study
Question 1
There is no doubt that when it comes to proposed plans of treatment, the role the medical care providers
have is essential. In the proposed scenario, the confusion and misunderstanding represent the root
problems which can lead to more harm than good in the case of James. It is the physician's role to provide
all the required information to ensure that Mike understands the circumstances. The case deals with two
different parties who see the pathology differently and which leads to different decisions. It is the role of
the care providers to point out that all that he is doing is to make sure that James is in a good state of
health and that no harm is intended.
Question 2
There is no doubt that any religious belief, such as it is the case of Christianity, will influence the way
people make decisions. Each religion has its own definition of health and sickness and due to that, it is
important that the care providers be aware of these aspects. Many religious people believe that facing a
sickness represents testing their own faith in God and due to that many of them refuse treatment as they
believe that they have to pass through this. On the other hand, other patients believe that the suffering
which is brought by the pathology is actually a reflection of their sins and due to that they need to face it
in order to be forgiven by God. These groups of patients tend to refuse any kind of treatment due to their
belief that it is God’s will for them to be sick. Many of them believe that healing can only come from God
and any other form of external treatment is irrelevant. Even so, these groups of patients needs to be
informed that the Bible provides no information regarding the fact that receiving any form of treatment is
a sin
