Society depends on correctional facilities to help maintain public safety from offenders,
criminals, and prisoners by running secure facilities. Correctional facilities are areas set aside to
confine and rehabilitate offenders. Jails, prisons, and other facilities set aside by the government
to imprison offenders are terms used to refer to correctional facilities; they can be categorized as
minimum or maximum facilities (Larson, 2017). Prisons as correctional facilities are simply
facilities in which offenders are forcibly restricted, various freedom and rights are taken away
from them under the law. Prisons are usually used to serve justice whereby people charged for
going against the law may be kept until their trial. Those who have been found guilty are
sentenced to a certain period of imprisonment. This paper shall discuss ethical issues in the
prison system, the debate whether to privatize prisons, consequences for correctional officers
who violate the laws, corrections programs and the debate on physical punishment.
Ethical Issues in Prison System
All governmental organizations including correctional facilities are governed by a code
of ethics. Prisoners are no different as some violate the ethical codes. The ethical issues in
prisons arise from the treatment of prisoners from excessive use lockdowns, solitary
confinement, pat searches, and even involving officers from an opposite gender. There are also
