Even though these roles are usually associated with being in the church, as disciples of Jesus Christ we also have to fulfill these them in the classroom. So not only is it possible, but it is important that we fulfill these roles because each one has certain aspects that is essential in bearing the true nature of Jesus Christ. In the prophet role we “know, interpret, and speak God’s truth, which involves knowing God Himself, knowing oneself, and knowing the rest of creation” (Graham, p. 127, 2003). This role is important because it requires us to know and understand the revelation from GOD that we must apply to our lives and share with others. The priest role is important because we are intercessors in this role, one way we act as intercessors is through prayer. According to Graham, “Prayer for and with our students should be a regular part of a teacher’s involvement with them” (Graham, p. 128, 2003). The King role, “involves the right use of authority” (Graham, p. 129, 2003). This role is vital because even though it involves exercising authority accurately, we are to act as servants in this role just as Jesus did. This means that “we should use our authority to enable the students to be all they were created to be” (Graham, p. 129, 2003). References Graham, D. L. (2003). Teaching Redemptively: Bring grace and truth into your classroom. Colorado Springs, CO: Purposeful Design Publications Reply 2 to Charles I would agree that you as a teacher can fulfill the role of prophet, priest, and king when working with children. These three realms all deal with leadership something a teacher needs in his or her everyday teaching experiences. According to Merriam Webster's dictionary, a prophet is "one who speaks by divine inspiration; someone who is an interpreter of God." Anyone called to the profession of teaching hungers for enlightenment. They strive to reach out to others and lead them to understanding through instruction. A teacher is one who is knowledgeable in his or her subject and is capable of using his or her skills to to effectively impart that knowledge with a great deal of understanding and caring. Also according to Merriam Webster's dictionary, a king is "one whose position is hereditary and who rules for life." A teacher is a king in that by his or her very position as a leader, he or she has authority in the classroom. This should never be abused and always used to benefit the students. Finally, a priest is "one authorized to perform the sacred rites of a religion especially as a mediators agent between humans and God." A teacher is a priest in that he or she is in a position to teach the children in his or her class, not just through instruction, but also by example. Caring about the children, modeling love and patience and forgiving mistakes provides a link between the Christ and the child. A tangible reminder and example of Christ's love. This is perhaps the most important quality as I see it. Not all teachers display these quailties and those that do, do not display these qualities all of time. None the less, they are attainable and can be practiced in the classroom. Merriam-Websters Dictionary, retrieved October 3, 2014, from i.word.com. 2014
