Every state in the United States has clear and strict regulations on the laborer
compensation policies that every business has to comply with to avoid any legal suits. The states
of Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois have laborer compensation policies that differ in terms
of termination of employment, the minimum wage for employees, paid time off, insurance on
workplace injury or accident, and medical and sick leave.
Insurance on Workplace Injury or Accident
The State of Ohio makes it compulsory for every business to purchase a workers’
compensation insurance policy from a government-operated state fund only. Employees who
earn more than $160 in a 13-week period are covered by the workers’ compensation insurance
("Ohio workers’ compensation law", 2020). Unlike the State of Ohio, employers in Michigan
must have an employees’ compensation insurance if it employs an individual for a minimum of
35 hours or more per week during a 13-week period or more in the preceding 52-week duration
("Michigan workers’ compensation law", 2020). The Michigan law requires an employer to
prove that it is able to pay for any injuries a worker sustains in their workplace.
The Illinois law needs employers to purchase a workers’ compensation policy either from a
private insurer or they self-insure, and this policy must cover part-time employees ("Illinois
workers’ compensation law", 2020). In contrast, Indiana law requires every business operating in
its state to have a workers’ compensation insurance policy for full- and part-time employees,
minor employees, company executives, and students who are receiving federally-funded on-thejob-training ("Indiana workers’ compensation law", 2020). There...
