healthcare providers' ability to manage common infectious diseases. According to WHO (2020),
it is among the biggest threats to food security, global health, and development that might be
witnessed worldwide. For instance, the treatment of infections such as gonorrhea, tuberculosis,
pneumonia, and foodborne diseases has become more challenging because the drugs have
become less effective (CDC, 2020). Although the antibiotic resistance is a natural process, the
misuse of the drugs is accelerating it to a higher level, which might result in the entry of a postantibiotic era where some of the most common infections can cause death.
The prevention and control of antibiotic resistance require a collaborative approach to
promote the achievement of the goal. This will include the involvement of individuals,
policymakers, the healthcare industry, health professionals, and the agriculture sector. Some of
the individual strategies include the use of only antibiotics prescribed by a certified health
provider, avoiding the use of leftover antibiotics, seeking proper health advice before the use of
the drugs, practicing infection prevention, and only using antibiotics when there is a need (WHO,
